What is A Certified Medication Aide (CMA)
A certified medication aide in the state of Ohio can assist nurses in long term care or assisted living facilities administration. The CMA is permitted to administer oral medications (except Schedule II narcotics), and medication via the following routes: Ear, Eye, Nasal, Inhaled, Rectal, Vaginal, Topical. CMA can administer PRN (as needed) medication (not Schedule II drugs) after a nurse assesses the resident and determines the need. The CMA does not replace a Nurse, rather CMAs assist the Nurse, allowing more time for the Nurse to complete other nursing tasks.
