MEDICATION AIDE TRAINING PROGRAM

This course prepares you to take the Ohio State Test for Certified Medication Aides (CMA). Our program prepares you to perform the assigned functions of medication administration in long-term care facilities and assisted living facilities.

MEDICATION AIDE TRAINING (CMA)
ETI’s Medication Aide Training certificate program is available (Ohio Board of Nursing approved) to persons over the age of 18 with a high school diploma or GED. During training, Certified Medication Aide candidates will receive the information necessary for safe, effective, and respectful administration of approved medications under the direction of a licensed nurse in long term care or assisted living facilities in Ohio as outlined by the training requirements in Chapter 4723-27 – Ohio Administrative Code. ETI’s comprehensive training program, taught by Registered Nurses, can significantly improve the lives of those individuals who complete the training by giving them a competitive advantage. With an emphasis on techniques and hands-on skills training, completers of the program are prepared for the requirements to pass the Ohio Board of Nursing Certification Exam. This program is 14 Clock Hours of Classroom and 16 Clock Hours of Clinical for a total of 30 Clock Hours. Enrollees are required to provide a copy of their high school transcript or G.E.D., have proof of a 2-step TB skin test / Mantoux within the last year, provide a copy of their Ohio ID or driver’s license, and an FBI / BCI background check (a copy must also be sent to the Ohio Board of Nursing) before enrolling. Candidates will also be required to pass a school assessment demonstrating competency in reading comprehension and basic math skills. Scrubs and duty shoes are required.
Upon completion, with a passing cumulative grade of 70% or higher of all written and practical exams at ETI, the student will sit for the certification exam at ETI and be eligible to apply to the Ohio Board of Nursing to obtain certification as a Certified Medication Aide (CMA) in Ohio.
Prices do not include the FBI/BCI background, TB Skin test, scrubs, shoes, or the Ohio Board of Nursing certification fees. Financial aid is not available for this course. Class start dates are available on the school’s website: www.eticollege.edu.

What is A Certified Medication Aide (CMA)

A certified medication aide in the state of Ohio can assist nurses in long term care or assisted living facilities medication administration. The CMA is permitted to administer oral medications and medication via the following routes: Ear, Eye, Nasal, Inhaled, Rectal, Vaginal, Topical and Insulin via a pre-filled pen. CMAs can administer PRN (as needed) medication. The CMA does not replace a Nurse, rather CMAs assist the Nurse, allowing more time for the Nurse to complete other nursing tasks.
